Privacy Policy
At InFocus Health your privacy is important. We aim to provide a safe, respectful space, including how your personal information is handled.
This policy outlines how your information is collected, used, and stored in line with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.
Information InFocus Health collects
To provide counselling services, InFocus Health collects personal and sensitive information relevant to your care. This may include your contact details, background information, and information shared during sessions.
Information is collected directly from you via intake forms, sessions, and communication (email, phone, or online systems). With your consent, we may also receive information from other professionals involved in your care.
How your information is used
Your information is used to:
provide counselling services
maintain clinical records
manage appointments and payments
meet legal and professional obligations
With your consent, InFocus Health may communicate with other professionals involved in your care.
Confidentiality
Your information is kept confidential.
Exceptions apply where:
you provide consent
there is a risk of serious harm
disclosure is required by law
Where possible, this will be discussed with you first.
Storage and security
Your information is stored securely using password-protected and encrypted systems. Reasonable steps are taken to protect it from loss, misuse, or unauthorised access.
Records are retained in accordance with legal requirements (generally a minimum of 7 years after your last session).
In the event of unauthorised access, disclosure, or loss of personal information that could result in serious harm, InFocus Health will investigate the incident and notify both affected clients and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner as required under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
Use of AI tools
AI-supported tools may be used to assist with note-taking and administration. These tools do not record sessions and are used in a way that maintains confidentiality and professional standards.
Telehealth
Telehealth (video and phone) sessions are offered using secure platforms. While steps are taken to protect your privacy, online services carry some inherent risk.
Third-party services
Secure third-party platforms may be used for bookings, communication, or payments.
Access to your information
You may request access to or correction of your personal information. Requests will be responded to within a reasonable timeframe, in line with legal requirements.
Clients under 18
We primarily work with adults. Where we work with clients under 18, confidentiality and consent are discussed at the outset.
Concerns
If you have concerns about your privacy, you are encouraged to contact InFocus Health directly.
You may also contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).
